The link below goes to an interesting article on recycling plastic bottles. To summarize the article, plastic recycling is very complex and dependent on market forces. A lot of plastic ends up in landfills because the technology and/or market for the recycled materials is not available. A more sustainable option, if you live in an area with safe tap water, is filling your reusable water bottle from the faucet. If you do buy water in recyclable plastic bottles, please check the guidelines for your local recycling center and recycle them. Knowing the guidelines for recycling various items (for instance, whether you remove the cap or leave it on the plastic bottle) is important because if the wrong kind of plastic ends up in a batch, it can contaminate the entire batch and make it useless.
