A recent TED article discusses the effect of the clothes industry on the planet. According to the article, “over the past 15 years, clothing production has doubled — yet the length of time that we actually wear these clothes has fallen by nearly 40 percent.” The article also says that “If things don’t change fast, the fashion industry could use one-quarter of the world’s remaining global carbon budget and use 35% more land to produce fibers by 2030.” I have stopped buying clothes from certain stores and brands because the clothes only last through a few laundry cycles. Instead, I pay a little more and buy clothes that last much longer – sometimes for several years. It costs a little more in the beginning, but then I don’t have to buy as many clothes later. Sustainability also includes how you care for your clothes. For example, drying your clothes in a hot dryer significantly reduces the life of the clothes. I have included a link to the TED article below.
